I recently bought a set of books by John Steinbeck at a bargain price. Steinbeck is an author I’ve never actually read, but feel that I should have.
I started with Tortilla Flat which is the earliest one in the collection. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very funny in parts, and a little bit sad too. I like the character of Danny, but Pilon is the best for me. Recommended!

I finished Audrey Hepburn by Barry Paris the other day. I very much enjoyed this book. It did take a long time to read it however. The information in it was quite dense and detailed; There are nearly 400 pages of the main text of the book, along with reference notes, a filmography, listings of stage and television work, two sets of photographs and an index.
Mr Paris has certainly done his research. His source notes are split by chapter at the end of the book, and there are often more than 100 sources per chapter listed! He clearly loves his subject, and Audrey is treated with love and respect. Having said that, it seems she truly was a unique character, much loved and respected by nearly everyone who met her. I knew very little about Audrey Hepburn before I read this book. I now know her life story, and certainly want to see more of her work. Jan and I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s over the weekend. We also have My Fair Lady on video, and several more DVD’s. I will try to watch them over the next few weeks.

These guys are really starting to annoy me now! SCO Announces Intellectual Property License for Linux. They even have this made up FAQ which claims:

“Q: Does everyone who uses Linux need a SCO UNIX IP License for Linux?
A: End users running Linux 2.4 or later versions for commercial purposes need a SCO IP license.”

Regardless of the outcome of the contract dispute with IBM which has not yet been resolved in a court of law. Their claim to owning some of the IP in Linux (and Novell, the real owners of the Unix copyright say SCO only have a right to license it) is not yet proven in law. How can SCO get away with this?

I’ve not posted for a while, but here are some little bits of info:
I was back in work on Monday, which wasn’t too bad. I managed a gentle slide back into the thick of things.
I’m still working away at WordPress. I’ve just committed a contribution which allows you to add geographic tags (latitude and longitude) to a post.
I’ve been getting comments on some old stories quite recently this one, this, this old favourite, and this.
Do you remember those old cartoons where all products seem to be available mail order and only from the ACME company? Well go to the Illustrated Catalog of ACME Products for some serious nostalgia!
