Books ‘N’ Work

I did finish Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night. It was every bit as good as I remembered it. I wanted to move straight on to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire but it seems Jamie took it into school recently and left it there. She forgot to bring it back (as I asked) when she came home from school this afternoon. :-(
Back in work today and it was raining so hard this morning I decided to forgo cycling. I’ll try to get back to it tomorrow. Busy as usual. That’s about it, it wasn’t quite as hot in the office today but it was more humid to compensate!

Sunday

As usual Jamie and I went swimming this morning with Steve and Megan. Jamie did really well today swimming eight ‘widths’ of the pool. (Actually about 4/5ths of the width — a narrow strip is roped off for serious swimmers.) I was very proud of her. She doesn’t normally exert herself at all. So todays effort was very very good. Well done Jamie!
When we got back from swimming, we all sat out in the sunshine for a while. I go too hot and went in to read. I finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets last night and am most of the way through Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I’ll probably finish it tonight.

Epsilon 12 Beta

Aaaw! I was going to go to bed early tongiht, but Mark pointed out that Lugaru have announced that there is a beta Version of Epsilon 12 Available!. Epsilon is the best programmers editor I have ever used, by a long, long way. I know that one’s choice of editor is almost a religious preference for some, but consider this; I have for the last 12 years consistently proven that I can perform day-to-day file editing tasks faster and more reliably than any of my non-epsilon using colleagues in job after job. I can perform many complex or unusual file editing tasks with epsilon which colleagues just cannot hope to even attempt (even if, in some cases, their editors are capable). I would walk away from a job which did not allow me to use epsilon! (Can’t you just smell the religious fervour? Hear the pulpit pounding?)
So now I’ve got to play with some of the juicy new features in this new version!

Order Of The Phoenix — finished

Wow! Tonight I finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by JK Rowling. Not bad going since Sunday night!
I must say I really enjoyed it. I found it much more entertaining and fast paced than Goblet of Fire. The story line is good, without too many twists and turns in the plot. It is not perfect by any measure and some of the book is not up to the standard of the earlier books. Read on for more detail, but only if you don’t mind learning about the plot. You have been warned! Plot spoilers ahead. Edit: Oops! I accidentally mis-spelled phoenix as pheonix in the title this post. Continue reading
