Windows Finished

Wow, the windows are all finished now (well nearly). The first worker to arrive this morning was the guy to do the lead waterproofing, who arrived before 8am. He did an excellent job, and the lead flashing looks really nice. I wonder whether he is still classed as a plumber?

Plumber (n.) One who works in lead; esp., one who furnishes, fits, and repairs lead, iron, or glass pipes, and other apparatus for the conveyance of water, gas, or drainage in buildings.

The window fitters finished off the bay window today including all fitting all the trim and making good round the outside of the frame. The only thing left to do now is the plastering inside and the rendering outside.
Unfortunately the builder cannot come back to complete that until Tuesday, which is NOT what we were told when booking the appointment for the fitting. In fact we had to wait until this time (it should have been the end of May originally) in order to fit in with the builder!
We took some pictures before, during, and after the work. I’ll post them in the gallery when I get a chance.

More Windows

The guys were here at eight o’ clock this morning, and got stuck in straight away. Jan and Jamie went out early on. We knew that the fitters would soon be working in the kitchen leaving us practically nowhere to sit out of the way. So they decided to do some shopping. I went into the cellar and worked on WordPress.
They’ve done really well today. The builder got the base of the bay window built, both inner and outer bricks, internal floor, and internal wall. The fitters have now got all the windows in place, including the bay window! They still need to finish a little for the upstairs window at the front, and a lot to do on the bay window. But still fantastic progress. Someone is coming tomorrow to fit the lead on top of the new bay (to waterproof it).
My Mum is coming tomorrow as she is having her flat rewired, so she is coming to ours to keep out of the way! I suppose it will be quieter here now they’ve got most of the work done, but we weren’t expecting that, and I wasn’t sure just how much peace she would get.
I’ve got to go into the office tomorrow for a meeting, that should be interesting.

Windows

We got up bright and early this morning ready for the workmen coming to start fitting the new windows. Unfortunately we received a phone call just before 8am to say that they would be delayed as they were “still waiting some of [our] frames”, and they wouldn’t be arriving until around lunchtime. Hmmm, not a good start.
Anyway, the builder turned up early, measured up, then disappeared for an hour (he told me he would do this). In the end the window crew turned up by 11 and got to work.
So far the builder has removed the old brickwork in the bay, and laid the footings for the new brickwork. The Window crew have completely fitted three windows. A pretty good first day really.

Work

I had a very busy day today at work. I don’t think I stopped all day, I didn’t leave my desk other than for a 10-minute meeting and to visit the toilet! I ate my lunch at my desk too. All this in an attempt to get some things tied up because I am off work for the rest of this week while we have the windows fitted.

Sunday

I was writing a long post about what happened on Sunday, and why I didn’t blog, and what I did instead with links and everything… when a slip of the finger closed the browser window :-(
So instead you get…
Mum’s Birthday… tidied… watched Robbie Williams Story.. and rubbish film with buffy babe Gellar… bed…

Busy Day

We’ve all had a busy day today. It started very early. Jan had us all up by 6:30! Jan, Jamie and Jan’s sister Wendy were going to a car boot sale to be held in the local park this morning. It was to be an all-day sale as Stockport Carnival was on today too. Mean while I had a big job to do, which was to remove the window seat in the lounge. This is in preparation for the new windows being fitted next week. We are having the bay window rebuilt hence the need to remove the window seat before the workmen arrive to demolish the bay.
But first, I went back to bed for an hour! ;-) When I eventually got to work on it, it went quite well. It wasn’t as tough as I had thought it was going to be. I only managed to cut my self once when I caught my arm on a nail resulting in a deep gash. In all I had the window seat removed, some temporary cover up work and everything cleaned up in about two and a half hours. Quite good going for me that (no cigarette breaks anymore!).
Then I had lunch, showered and walked up to the park to see the girls. The carnival parade was arriving as I made my way into the park. The various bands I could hear on my way up sounded much better than last year. I eventually found the girls and the car. They had had a good day so far. Especially Jamie who was selling off some of her old toys and books. She managed to raise just over £45 altogether. Jan did well, and Wendy made more than she was expecting. We had just decided to start packing up as things were going quiet, when the rain started (it had been threatening all day). That decided for us and we quickly packed up and set off home.
The girls were exhausted from their early start and were both in bed by 9pm!

New Home

I finished moving desk this morning, but it was quite frustrating. In the end it was more than an hour before I could get on with my work! And it was terribly hot until I got my fan plugged in again. Still, I’ve realised that as well as now having a wall against which I have stacked my CDs I also have a little more room around my seat. But I am now next to the main door which half the office use to get to the kitchen and loos. It may get very busy at my back!

Moving

I have to move desks at work tomorrow. :-( I knew this was coming up after the company re-organisation a few months ago, and that pretty much everyone will have to move to a new place, but it has taken a long time to get organised. Unfortunately the rumours all week have been that the bulk of the moving would take place next week. In fact the plans and schedule published today confirmed this. Except… for three people who have to move tomorrow. Yep, I’m one of them.
The pain is that I have a lot of stuff to move, probably more than anyone else; there is my whole cd collection — 12 CD racks full of CDs + more, a few dozen reference books, as well as the usual stacks of papers, three drawers full of junk… Oh yeah, and a PC and monitor :-)
Anyway, given the amount of other work I have to do tomorrow, I started moving some of it tonight. I’ve got the CD’s and books done so it shouldn’t be too bad tomorrow.
